The Oratorio Chorus and Concert Orchestra perform The High Mass by IU faculty member Sven-David SandströmNovember 14, 2001Considered an artistic rebel in his native Sweden, Sandström surprised his musical contemporaries when he composed The High Mass. Because of his strict non-conformist Protestant background, it was especially shocking that he was drawn to the Catholic liturgy in writing such a piece. It is a mass composition in the grand tradition; a piece of church music on a level of intention virtually unknown in the history of Swedish music. or listen to the individual movements below
