2009 Honors Convocation
March 29, 2009
Indiana University Bloomington has begun honoring high-achieving undergraduate students with a new award that salutes sustained academic excellence. Students who have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.8 or higher are designated as “Founders Scholars,” a new tradition begun at IU Bloomington’s Honors Convocation on March 29. The Honors Convocation was among activities that took place during Founders Day, the annual celebration of IU’s founding in 1820.
In addition to presenting the new award, IU President Michael A. McRobbie presented Indiana University President Emeritus Myles Brand with an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree. Brand served as the university's president from 1994 to 2002 and since January 2003 has been president of the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
