Childress delivered the lecture “Bioethical Controversies About Human Dignity: Cloning and Commerce in Organs” on March 3, 2005. Professor Childress is the Hollingsworth Professor of Ethics in the Department of Religious Studies and Professor of Medical Education at the University of Virginia, as well as being the director of the Institute for Practical Ethics. Professor Childress’ lecture was the 2005 Matthew Vandivier Sims Memorial Lecture, which is presented annually by the Poynter Center for the Study of Ethics and American Institutions and the family and friends of Matthew, who died in infancy.
