State of the University address 2001

Each year the president of Indiana University addresses the State of the University. In this year's speech, titled "The State’s University," IU President Myles Brand traces the beginnings of what is now known as Indiana University and discusses its mission today. Fulfilling that mission, President Brand says, will require the university and the state it serves to recognize their interdependence and their reciprocal obligations. The university’s ability to provide an educated workforce and strong research base rests on the support it receives from the state.
