The James P. Holland Memorial Lecture Series allows Indiana University to recognize the contributions of an exemplary scholar who possessed a passion for teaching and learning. Professor Holland succeeded as a teacher because he focused on students, not just the content of his discipline. Armed with an unswerving commitment to excellence and equity, Professor Holland was a mentor for students from all walks of life long before "mentoring" was part of the popular vocabulary of academia.
