The New Student Induction at IU Indianapolis is a special tradition that serves as an official welcome and introduction to the Indiana University community. Students receive their IU pin and are formally accepted by the university, campus, and student leaders. They recite the Indiana Promise, an agreement to uphold the values and expectations of members of the Jaguar student body.
Introduced in 2024 as a new tradition at the Indianapolis campus, the Induction Ceremony marks the official beginning of a student’s journey at Indiana University and serves as a symbolic counterpart to IU Commencement. The ceremony features the introduction of the incoming class, a shared commitment to The Indiana Promise, and a presentation of the IU alma mater, “Hail to Old IU.”
