On Oct. 18, 2007, Indiana University hosted a Presidential Inauguration Concert at IU Auditorium to celebrate Michael A. McRobbie’s appointment as IU’s 18th president. The concert featured the IU Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of renowned conductor David Effron and with pianist André Watts, the Jack I. and Dora B. Hamlin Endowed Chair in Music at the Jacobs School of Music. During the concert, Watts performed Greig's beloved Piano Concerto in A Minor, Op. 16. Watts, one of the world’s most acclaimed classical pianists, whose performance career spanned more than 60 years, passed away on July 12, 2023, at age 77.
