IU Bloomington’s new students and their families gather in the campus’s legendary Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall for the New Student Induction Ceremony, an official welcome and introduction to the Indiana University community. Students receive their IU pin, hear from IU President Pamela Whitten, IUB Provost Rahul Shrivastav, and Aaliyah Raji, president of IU Student Government. They recite the Indiana Promise, an agreement to uphold the values and expectations of members of the Hoosier student body.
A tradition on the Bloomington campus since 1933, the Induction Ceremony serves as the official start to Welcome Week and a bookend to IU Commencement. Families are invited to attend the ceremony as their Hoosier is inducted into the IU academic community. The event will also be livestreamed for family members unable to be on campus. The ceremony includes an introduction of the entering class, their commitment to The Indiana Promise, and the presentation of the IU alma mater, “Hail to Old IU”.
