In 2003, Charles Bantz became chancellor of IUPUI—Indiana’s urban public research university, which serves 30,000 students. He will step down as chancellor in August 2015.
A highlight of the chancellor’s academic leadership was making IUPUI Indiana’s destination for health and life sciences, and strategically focusing campus efforts on Indiana’s economic clusters. Chancellor Bantz has been a persistent advocate for undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs that help keep graduates in Indiana. He has been active in fostering diversity and encouraging better math, science, engineering, and technology education. Chancellor Bantz has also overseen an explosion of student life on the IUPUI campus as well as increased diversity among students, staff, and faculty. During his service, IUPUI completed two fundraising campaigns that have named three schools and transformed the campus.
