Commencement at Indiana University is more than just a celebration of years of hard work, dedication, and resilience; it marks a pivotal moment in a student’s life—a transition that reflects their growth, achievement, and potential. It is a moment in which our IU community formally recognizes the transformation of our students into educated, empowered, and inspired graduates. As we wish our students well on this singular day and reflect on their accomplishments, we also remind them they will always be a part of the Indiana University family. December Commencement exercises are open to candidates for graduate and undergraduate degrees in all IU Bloomington schools. The ceremony typically includes the procession of degree candidates, an address by a student speaker, the hooding of doctoral candidates, and the conferral of degrees.
